QJ LogoIt's been a busy weekend here at QJ.NET! As I'm sure many of you have noticed, we've been trying to upgrade our image viewer for thumbnails and pics. Needless to say, it wasn't the smoothest transition, but we think we've got it all worked out for the most part. Thanks to everyone for being patient while we got the bugs worked out!

After our last attempt at a Image Gallery viewer, we heard your complaints that it was just getting in the way and obnoxious - we wholeheartedly agreed, which is why we've now got an entirely new system for you guys, and we think you're going to love it! You won't have to deal with new windows popping up, or the image view taking you away from the article you're trying to read, now images will just be overlaid on top of your current page!

Once you're looking at your picture, you can move forward or backwards through the images for that post just by clicking the left or right side of the image pop-up. If you want to see the full sized image, just click "Full Size Image" underneath the picture and a new overlay will drop down for your viewing pleasure! Once you're done, just click the large image and it'll disappear - it's as easy as that! Unfortunately, the new image gallery features only apply to posts made from this point on and older posts will retain the "old" style of image viewing.

Aside from the pretty bells and whistles, we've got another new feature that has rolled out this weekend! On the bottom of each article, you'll find a drop down menu listing all your favorite Social Bookmarking sites, so you can find a QJ article there, or submit one yourself to let people know about a fun or interesting story you spotted at QJ. And since we can't ignore the popularity of Digg, you'll also find a "Digg it!" link at the bottom of each article as well!

And finally, you may have noticed that activity across all our blogs has increased dramatically in the last week and we're thrilled to announce that the QJ Network is seeing over 100 updates every day, making us one of the most updated blog networks on the web! There's guaranteed to be something new to check out every time you visit!

And that's just the beginning - new blogs ARE on the way and soon, but we're not going to let the cat out of the bag yet, you'll just have to wait and see what we've got up our sleeves! But have no doubt about it, we're on our way to becoming the largest content network website in the world, bringing you the latest and greatest content 24 hours a day, 7 days a week! And we're not talking about rounding up the best of what the web has to offer, but we'll be bringing you more original content that can only be found here at QJ.NET. Insider previews and interviews like this one are just the beginning of what we've got planned!

As always, our best ideas and features come from YOUR feedback, so please take a moment to let us know what you'd like to see here at QJ.NET... or to tell us we broke something, we can't fix it if we don't know about it! We hope you enjoy the site as much as we enjoy bringing it to you!

 » oh no

_blank is all we need! Just let the full sized image load in a new window... everything else is just wrong.

 » NO!

I HATE the new image thing... it's terrible... just leave it at how it was. The old way was better... when I click the image, it opens up in a new windows, that was simple, nice, and easy. Please go back to that...

""""we heard your complaints""""

No you didn't. We said we just wanted the images to open on a blank page like normal, but you guys just had to change it again. IMO, it's much worse and it takes while to load even on cable. I feel for the dial-up users having to go through this.

_blank IS JUST FINE. Trying to make this site hip and cool or whatever you guys want to achieve by adding awful image viewers just plainly fails.

I actually really like the new image gallery option. The last one we had didn't work at all and I didn't like using it, but this one is very useful for large screenshot galleries such as this one:

http://ds.qj.net/More-Pokemon-Diamond-and-Pearl-Screenshots/pg/49/aid/61529

Individually clicking each image and then closing the new tab (or window if you're using IE) is annoying so I think this new system works for stuff like that.

 » all well and good

this is all well and good, your fetching new blogs out

great!! or i mean it would be if you bothered to post the news ppl have sent to you on your existing blogs....

nothing else to say other than that

 » worthless and time consuming

Just http and img src and leave it at that. Why does one need to pile s_h_i_t on top of b_u_l_l_S_h_i_t.

I'd really like to see more banners and frames crammed on the page. But if you just want the news a simple wget, grep and sed command piped to a new html file is the only way to go.

Pranav T: Thanks for the comment, but it was an overuse of buzzwords and no sense ;). We do understand technical stuff, you know ;)

Thanks for listening to the people who come on here and doing what you can to make these sites the best. I know you guys might get people on here acting with no respect but thanks anyway for the content you provide. I enjoy the news you bring daily.

Thanks Again

the new image system sucks ass. sorry to tell you QJ, but you f*cked up again.

this is probably the worst ides since you decided to change the look of the site.

» Great Effort, just needs a little more

Hey guys,

I visit the 360 and PSP qj.net pages every day. I have to say that the new image viewer, though nice is a little frustrating. It's really pretty but it takes too long to do the little animation thing and it doesn't allow you to step through all the images, even though it knows how many images there are. e.g. 'Image 2 of 4'.

I really would prefer to just middle click the thumbs and have the images open in a new tab. You couldn't do that before and it was frustrating but now you've made it so it takes even longer to view an image.

Please, if you can add next and previous buttons it'll be great.

Cheers
AsciiSmoke

Nice gallery! All you monkey's who liked the old one better can go and suck on your banana's you retards! This one is better in just about every way for you and us. You can show more ads and we don't need to open an ugly new window

 » I love it

I already had lightbox on my site

www.console-covers.com

I'm glad you use it too and I like the way you implemented ads. Think I might have to rip that ;)

Interesting new gallery mode. How does it work? What technologies are being used?

Thanks!

 » ... pointless

look, browsers have a back button for a reason. forget the flashy javascript, just provide a thumbnail with a direct link to the image. that way, i can just middle click the image and bam. it's open in another tab in firefox. people using IE or other browsers can just press back if needed.

   by mobybeaver (Unregistered) - 2006-08-15
 » hate it

i hate when developers implement flashy features that break the web-surfing paradigm. get rid of it or at least make it a configurable user option.

   by deanspeed (Unregistered) - 2006-08-15
 » its awesome

i enjoy it a lot. it is also less frustrating then before, before i would some times close the window and then realised that i should of hit the back button because i would be back at my desktop. now i don't have that problem any more. nice work qj i hope you keep it this way :).

   by BlueViper (Unregistered) - 2006-08-16
 » no...

no, as someone said, _blank is what we need,. Stopping us from opening several images in the background and keep on surfing is an obstacle, at least for me...
