fotosmartr967Great things come in small packages. HP obviously understands this concept well, that's why they were able to come up with the compact HP Photosmart R967. Measuring only 3.7inch-wide, the Photosmart R967 is a 10-megapixel shooter with a 3-inch LCD and 3x optical zoom.

It also features HP's Steady Photo anti-shake mode, a rather unusual 24 frame-per-second VGA video shoot format, as well as the Photosmart Express. That last item lets you enter up to 34 destinations such as email addresses, printers, or online photo services, and then after you take a photo, you select its destination right there on the back of the camera.

Available next month, you can have your own Photosmart R967 for $449.

HP Photosmart R707Hewlett-Packard Co. is recalling its HP Photosmart R707 digital cameras after receiving a report that one of these units caught fire.

About 679,000 digicams are being recalled worldwide to prevent this same incident from happening. According to reports, the digicams can cause batteries to overheat when these cameras are connected to docking stations or AC adapters.

Although no injuries related to an HP Photosmart R707 were reported, Hewlett-Packard will still make sure that their units will be fixed. An update for HP's other digicams can be downloaded from their home site that will prevent digicams from applying a charge to non-rechargeable batteries.

Can't seem to lose those unwanted pounds? Well, if you own the newest line of HP's digital cameras you can take a picture of yourself or someone else and slim the person in the picture down to your/their desired size. The new cameras have a slimming feature that can make owners or others look ten pounds lighter. The feature slims the center portion of the photo and widens the the outside edge. With a few feature adjustments and at least $300, the cost of the new camera, you can automatically lose those difficult pounds.

Want to slim down? How about you just use some camera trickery instead of doing that whole dieting thing?

The new 8.2MP Photosmart R927 is one of several new digital cameras from HP that has a special "slimming feature." Use the slimming effect in the Design Gallery in playback, and you'll look as much as 10 pounds thinner on the camera's 3-inch LCD. No kidding.

According to a New York Post article, "It's a pretty subtle change we've built into the camera," said Karl Wardrop, HP's digital imaging product manager. "It's not dramatic. It slims the center of photos and slightly widens the outside to maintain perspective. It's like the (fun-house) mirror from the fair, but not as exaggerated."

Of course, you could always just use Photoshop or another image editing program, but that wouldn't be as easy or as fun. HP is the first company to offer the effect in-camera. The R927 hits retail this month at a cost of $399.99.

HP Deskjet 5940Well, you can say it thinks because this printer automatically senses the media being used. That's just one of the good things about the HP Deskjet 5940. Another good thing about it is that it inherited most of the good qualities of the much-loved HP Deskjet 6540.

The exterior control panels of the HP Deskjet 5940 are designed to make adjusting settings easy. The PictBridge port is front-mounted so direct printing from your digital cameras is a breeze.

What excites most about this new HP printer is the fact that the image quality of both photos and printed text produced is excellent.

The HP Deskjet 5940 will make you forget the good times you had with your 6540 printer because this is definitely better. And it thinks! Sort of.

HP Photosmart M425
Yup, that's right. You can upload photos from your Photosmart M425 to the HP Snapfish website without having to use a software program. This digital camera comes with HP Photosmart software that makes transfer and printing of photos easier. The catch? There are no on-camera editing functions (red-eye reduction, image cropping, etc.) like those included in other compacts, but you can still manipulate color settings with black and white and sepia settings (with poor image quality results).

Although the HP Photosmart M425 can't (and shouldn't) be proud of its 16MB internal memory and its 1.7-inch LCD screen, it can be proud of its manual control options that are easy to understand especially by point-and-shooters.

Other than these basic features of the HP Photosmart M425, it's just the same as the other compacts in the market. Too bad.

HP Photosmart E327HP is releasing a 5-megapixel digital camera this March, and everybody seems to be very anxious about it. Like many other compacts available, the HP Photosmart E327 Digital Camera have 4x digital zoom, PictBridge support, Exif 2.2 support, and 16MB internal memory features, among others. One can also increase the E327's storage capacity with SD cards.

Unlike other compacts though, the Photosmart E327 has a relatively smaller LCD screen - only 1.8 inches. The E327 also doesn't have an optical zoom lens, so I still don't know how it's going to fare with the other compacts that have an optical zoom lens.

The HP Photosmart E327 is ideal for those looking for (pricy) point-and-shoot cameras.
